Content Development

Museum visitors respond enthusiastically to good storytelling. This requires understanding what to say, and knowing how to say it. Many years of experience with exhibitions have taught me how to communicate ideas clearly and how to engage the interests of a public audience.

Sample Projects

Rochester Museum & Science Center, Rochester, NY

The Challenge: A science museum seeks to incorporate humanities themes into its planning for a major natural history exhibit.

The Solution: Write the narrative for a successful NEH planning grant; work with museum staff and outside designers to develop thematic content; write final exhibit text.

The Outcome: “Expedition Earth” opens in three phases over a three-year period to public appreciation and acclaim.

Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Farmington, PA

The Challenge: A National Park Service site seeks to develop exhibits for a new interpretive center that reflect contemporary historical scholarship.

The Solution: Conduct in-depth research; hire area specialist subcontractors; create a 2,500 page resource package including primary sources, summaries, and written commentary.

The Outcome: This resource material provides the interpretive foundation for the exhibits at the new Fort Necessity / National Road Interpretive and Education Center.
